Starbucks' NEW Vegan Breakfast Option

Starbucks' NEW Vegan Breakfast Option

It seems like it has been a long time coming but after gradually introducing vegan-friendly drinks and snacks over the years, and adding almond milk to their menu last year, Starbucks is finally   testing a protein-rich prepared breakfast option, that is fully vegan. In select Starbucks locations throughout New York you can now purchase overnight oats (steel cut oats, quinoa, and chia seeds) soaked in coconut milk topped with almond slices. Incredible! If sales go well in their test locations in New York they plan to add this new vegan menu item to its stores across the nation!

It's that time of year when we stand together to bring attention to the horrific mass slaughter of farmed animals worldwide. Through the voluntary sacrifice of food on October 2nd, we will amplify the voices of the billions of farmed animals suffering around the world. We aim to inspire others to learn the truth, and to mobilize a compassionate global community who will not wait for justice, but who will make it a reality. Share on social media, change your profile pics, and rally the troops. Let's work together to highlight demonstrate how terrible the lives of these beautiful, sentient, beings truly are. VegNews on Living Frugally Vegan

One of our favorite resources for all things vegan news related is VegNews Magazine online! They've got weekly articles and resources for the everyday vegan, newbie vegans, and everyone in between. We enjoyed a recent article of theirs, by contributor Mat Thomas, with tips regarding budget-friendly vegan grocery shopping, cooking, and storing foods. The short article highlights things like buying staple food items in bulk, cooking at home rather than dining out, taking advantage of your local Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), and freezing foods that might otherwise go bad (and what to do with them in their frozen form). We enjoy quick and simple tips and tricks to continue to maintain a cruelty-free and healthful lifestyle. Thanks, VegNews!

Peet's Coffee Now Carries Vegan Coconut Whipped Cream

It's fascinating to see the 'boom' that happens in social media when the vegan community gets jazzed on new options at traditionally non-vegan-friendly establishments. This past week the vegan social media hubs were buzzing (quite literally!) about mega coffee chain, Peet's Coffee, adding housemade coconut whipped cream to their offerings (at all of their 236 locations). More than one reputable vegan news-like source confirmed that the new whip is in fact fully vegan and will likely remain a permanent fixture on Peet's Coffee menu. Awesome! In related news, according to the 'My Vegan Journal' blog and VegNews, Starbucks will start carrying almond milk this September. This in addition to their coconut milk option. While it's particularly good news for the coffee lovers out there, it's also just super cool to see how veganism and cruelty-free living just keep growing and growing and growing!

Yard House Sport Bar Adds More Vegan Food to Menu

Vegan and sports bar are probably not two things we may think are often paired together but American sports bar chain, Yard House is looking to change that. With 65 locations across the United States (primarily west of the Mississippi River), Yard House is making vegan cuisine more accessible to its customers. They recently announced that they are adding a vegan burger to their already vegan-friendly menu. The Vegan Burger is made from "plant-based Gardein and an umami-flavored veggie patty that our chefs mix with red quinoa, kale, and shiitake mushrooms that have been seasoned with garlic, onions, and miso, topped with dairy-free Daiya mozzarella, avocado, tomato, arugula, and onion on an onion, poppy seed bun." Well that sure does sound good. Thank you for keep us well fed, Yard House!

Spotlight on Vegan-Friendly Philly

Spotlight on Vegan-Friendly Philly

It's always so exciting when positive news about veganism hits the mainstream media. At the end of last week The New York Times published a piece about how wonderfully vegan-friendly the city of Philadelphia has become. It's true, with multiple all-vegan fine dining establishments (like Vedge and Charlie Was a Sinner) to an all-vegan pizzeria (Blackbird Pizzeria), coffee shop (Grindcore House), fast casual (like Hip City Veg), raw and freshly pressed juices (PS & Co), and unique, small, intimate dining settings like at Miss Rachel's Pantry, it's no joke that Philly has a little bit of everything. Vegan-ized. We love the article coverage and we love how vegan-aware the world is becoming. Let's keep going. Woohoo!

Tips for Easy Vegan Travel

We've all been there: grumbling stomachs, icky in-flight options with hefty price tags, and the onset of feeling hangry. Fortunately, there are a handful of vegan travel resources popping up, like VeganTravel.com, and "Vegan Travel" pages on Facebook; where fellow travelers go to share their tips, ask questions, and learn from one another. In addition, VegNews Magazine online frequently publishes great travel pieces about specific cities and countries, as well as easy travel tips. For example, their recent piece on "Travel-Friendly Vegan Food" talks specifically of ways to work around awful plane food; like carrying small pre-packaged foods, packing noodles, rice, and even quinoa! Loving how easy vegan travel is becoming!
